Commemorative 100th Anniversary Lincoln and Shinola Timepiece

The celebrations for Lincoln’s 100th anniversary this year are continuing in full swing. Recently, the company teamed up with Detroit-based lifestyle brand Shinola to release two different timepieces to commemorate the occasion. With both Lincoln and Shinola calling Detroit their home and prioritizing design, craftsmanship, attention to detail, and style, this team-up is a match made in heaven, and the resulting watches make it clear how well the passions of Lincoln and Shinola have aligned to celebrate the centennial.

“As we celebrate 100 years with another iconic brand who is equally committed to craftsmanship, design and artistry, we are proud to showcase our combined approach to luxury with these Shinola watches – a memento to mark Lincoln’s anniversary,” said Michael Sprague, North America director at Lincoln.

Last year Shinola and Lincoln also had major success together with the release of the Aviator Shinola Concept. “Shinola opened up their showroom to us as a playground – allowing us to explore how their brand’s lifestyle ethos could be woven into a new theme for one of our vehicles,” said Kemal Curic, design director at Lincoln, about the process of creating the Aviator concept in 2021. “Our designers were handed a rare gift, and they made the most of it. The fresh insights our team gained studying popular design motifs make this new Aviator concept a true celebration of craftsmanship.”

For the 100th anniversary this year, two Shinola Runwell styles will be released– the Shinola Runwell Sport Chronograph and the Shinola Runwell Automatic. Both of these timepieces will have a limited run of 500 units each, and both will feature the Lincoln logo engraved on the watch’s case back at the 6 o’clock position. Each watch will come with a special Lincoln 100 Years wooden Shinola watch box.

The Shinola Runwell Sport Chronograph features a custom Lincoln branded seconds sub-eye. The rose gold details on the bezel and the black and rose gold dial and hands call back the copper accents of the Aviator Shinola Concept. Also available is a leather strap with the Lincoln logo stamped on the tip.

The Shinola Runwell Automatic will also have a custom Lincoln branded seconds sub-eye, and a polished stainless-steel case with black leather strap that has the Lincoln logo stamped into the tip. The timepiece features a matte black vellum-textured dial and rose gold numbers.

“Shinola and Lincoln both have a reputation for design excellence and a pursuit of craftsmanship and quality. Our Runwell Chronograph and Runwell Automatic celebrate the Born in Detroit heritage both brands share, and the commitment to build products that last and are loved over a lifetime,” said Ruthie Underwood, vice president of creative design at Shinola. “We’re honored to partner with Lincoln on this project.”

Both of these commemorative timepieces can be viewed here, along with other special merchandise for the centennial.

The middle of summer is a great time to take adventurous road trips with friends, but you should make sure to prepare your vehicle for the hot days ahead. Summer’s extreme temperatures, dry and humid climates, and the occasional downpour of warm rain can all take a toll on your vehicle’s essential systems. But with the following fundamental car care services, you can prepare your car to ensure it runs smoothly and safely through the whole season.

Change the Oil and Oil Filter

Across all seasons, extreme weather conditions (wet, hot, or cold) can make your vehicle’s oil and oil filters work harder. Your oil helps keep your engine’s parts lubricated while the filter is designed to capture harmful debris, dust, and metal fragments that have found a way into the vehicle’s oil system. A clean filter means more material gets blocked from harming your car. And more material getting blocked means cleaner oil, which leads to a healthier engine overall.

Carefully Check the Fluid Levels

Seasonal temperature and weather changes can result in low transmission fluid, power steering fluid, coolant, and even windshield wiper fluid, so check to be sure there’s plenty of each in your car! Out of all the fluid levels, Coolant fluid is an especially important one to maintain before your car endures extreme heat on the road. Based on evaluations from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence, the biggest cause of summer breakdowns is overheating. If you aren’t sure how to perform these checks on your own, stop by Carman Lincoln and let one of our technicians take a look!

Keep an Eye on Your Tire Pressure

To handle avoiding or even enduring hidden potholes and challenging road conditions, your tires should get a check up. Every day, tires lose or gain pressure based on the outside temperature. For instance, In cool weather a tire will usually lose one or two pounds of air every month. Make certain that your tires are inflated at the right levels before embarking on your next summer adventure because low air pressure tends to wear them out much faster. Get started by finding your vehicle’s recommended tire pressure.

Test Your Vehicle’s Battery

Many drivers don’t realize that heat is the number one cause of battery failure and reduced battery life. Summer heat increases the rate of vehicle fluid loss and the related rate of oxidation for the battery components, which can leave you stranded without a working vehicle in the dead of summer. Be sure to have your battery’s health inspected by a professional so you can drive with peace of mind wherever adventure calls this summer.

Get Your Vehicle’s Brakes Inspected

There’s arguably no more important part to maintain than your car’s brakes. With stop-and-go traffic, immersive and long road trips, and poor weather conditions, there are a wide range of potential challenges your brakes can encounter on the road that wear them down. Whether your brakes are making strange noises or seem to need extra pressure to come to a full stop quickly, it’s probably a great time for a professional brake inspection so everyone in the vehicle can stay safe.

The summer heat and related tough road conditions can make any vehicle need a checkup before your next adventure behind the wheel. At Carman Lincoln in New Castle, summer car care couldn’t be easier! Schedule an appointment with us online today.

Getting into a sweltering hot car is one of the worst parts of summer. You burn yourself on seat belt buckles, steering wheels, gear shifts, and scalding seats, and even if you manage to avoid a burn, you’ll still be sweating while you wait for the AC to cool the car down. From the beach to the fair, there’s so many fun things to do during the summer, but how are you supposed to enjoy them when just getting there means that you have to bake in your car?

These handy tips and tricks will help you to cool your car down this summer and make it easier for you to stay comfortable as you get on the road and head out in search of some summer fun!

Cover Your Seats

A big part of why it takes a car so long to cool down actually has very little to do with how effective your air conditioning is, and more to do with heat retention. When your car sits in the sun, the air inside it gets hot, but the objects inside your car, like your seats and your dashboard, also get hot. Once the AC starts blowing cool air, those large items are still radiating the heat they absorbed, and making your car uncomfortably hot even though the air is working.

To work against this, keep some blankets or large beach towels in your car and throw them over the seats to protect them from the sun while the car is parked. This is especially effective if you have dark-colored seats that will absorb more heat. When you take the covers off and start driving, your car will start to feel cooler much faster!

Fan Your Door

This one can feel a little silly if you’ve never done it before, but it’s a surprisingly effective way to speed up the cooling process. When you first get in the car, roll down the passenger side window while keeping the driver’s side window up. Then, hop out of the car and swing the driver’s side door back and forth about half a dozen times. Picture yourself fanning hot air through the car and out the passenger window, because that’s essentially what you’re doing!

While this won’t get your car ice cold, it can really help to take the edge off the heat and give the AC less work to do when it comes to really cooling the car down.

Turn Your Steering Wheel

Sometimes in the summer you feel like you need oven mitts just to hold onto your steering wheel. With this hack, all you have to do is turn your wheel 180 degrees when you park the car so that the part where you rest your hands is out of direct sunlight. When you get back in to drive again, turn the wheel the right way up and you’ll find you have a much cooler grip!

With these summer car hacks, you’ll be able to keep your vehicle a lot cooler during the next few months during road trips, days at the lake, and more!

Lincoln Star concept vehicle

2022 is the 100th anniversary of Lincoln. For over a century now, Lincoln has been providing the world with elegant and luxurious vehicles and constantly pushing the envelope in terms of innovation.

This year the company is celebrating the centennial with a 100 Years of Lincoln collection in partnership with Shinola that features a duffle brief, a journal, and Ray Ban aviator sunglasses. Lincoln will also be featured at the 71st Pebble Beach Concours d’Elegance, one of the world’s most prestigious displays of historic luxury automobiles, in August of this year.

In honor of this past century of hard work and innovation, let’s take a look at some major moments in Lincoln history!

Ford Purchases the Lincoln Motor Company

On February 4, 1922, Henry Ford purchased The Lincoln Motor Company from Henry Leland, an inventor and automotive engineer, for $8 million. Ford was encouraged by his wife Clara and his son Edsel Ford. At the time, Henry Ford was the creator of the most popular car in the world, and his son Edsel had even bigger plans.

The Model “L” is Released

Lincoln released the Model “L” in 1924 with a sleek new look that took the country by storm. This was the product of Ford’s revolutionary assembly line process, but it was also Edsel’s dedication to luxury and style that made the Model “L” what it was.

The Model L Becomes Presidential

That same year, Calvin Coolidge chose the Model “L” to be his official presidential car, a huge honor for Lincoln. Although it did switch over from the Model “L” to other models, Lincoln would go on to make other official presidential vehicles from 1939 to 1972.

Welcoming the Millenium

In 1997 Lincoln made some strides into the new century by releasing a full-size luxury SUV, the 1998 Navigator. The luxury SUV segment was still in its early stages at the time, and the navigator would go on to become the #1 best selling vehicle in the segment.

An Electrified Future

The new Lincoln Star concept is a forward-looking vehicle that debuted this year, providing an inspired glimpse of the exciting directions that Lincoln will be taking battery electric vehicles in the coming years.

“We are at a defining moment in our history. We look back at Lincoln’s past and find inspiration for the future and, to reflect on what we have accomplished – maintaining a balance between the brand’s core values and redefining our vehicle and experiences for the next generation of luxury clients,” says Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln. “The timing of our 100th anniversary couldn’t be more ideal as we shift to an electrified future, and I look forward to shepherding the brand into the next 100 years.”

The IIHS, or Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, is one of the most well-regarded vehicle safety organizations out there. Their extensive research and testing on the wide range of vehicles on the market today makes them well-suited to use as a benchmark for vehicle safety, as does their study and evaluation of motor vehicle crashes and their commitment to educating consumers, policymakers, and safety professionals on the subject. To receive high marks and good ratings from the IIHS is a good sign in terms of safety for any vehicle, and for the 2022 model year the Lincoln lineup is doing very well.

The Top Safety Picks for the 2022 model year were released earlier in the year, and multiple Lincoln vehicles were recognized in the ranks of the safest vehicles. To become a Top Safety Pick, a vehicle must receive “good” ratings in six different crash tests, “advanced” or higher ratings for available front crash prevention as well as vehicle-to-vehicle crash prevention and vehicle-to-pedestrian crash prevention, and “acceptable” or “good” ratings for available headlights. The Lincoln Corsair, Lincoln Aviator, and Lincoln Nautilus all made the cut for 2022, joining a grand total of 101 Top Safety Pick and Top Safety Pick+ winners.

The requirements for making the Top Safety Pick list in 2022 have not changed from 2021, but for the coming year changes will be made. Two new evaluations will be added to the award requirements for 2023, making the testing more rigorous and the list more exclusive. The side crash test is being updated, meant to simulate dangerous crashes in which two people collide at an intersection. In the test, a heavy barrier meant to simulate the striking vehicle hits the testing vehicle. Until recently, the barrier weighed 3,300 lbs and moved at 31 mpg, but the new version of the test uses a 4,200 lb barrier moving at 37 mph to create more energy in the collision and test the car in tougher conditions. 18 SUVs have already gone through the test, including the Lincoln Aviator, which earned a “good” rating.

Another test will also be added that tests the efficacy of a vehicles’ pedestrian crash prevention systems at night, since reports have begun to come out that automatic emergency braking systems that can prevent so many accidents have trouble functioning as well in low light conditions. This test will be included as part of the requirements for a Top Safety Pick+ award in 2023.

The Lincoln lineup has done well in 2022, and things are already moving in the right direction for that success to continue into 2023, keeping Lincoln vehicles as safe as they can be.

Getting ready for the summer often means unpacking your tank tops and enjoying the good weather, but it’s also a great time to make sure your car is ready for the hot days ahead. For both big group trips to the beach or driving downtown to meet friends in the city, it’s crucial to ensure your car is prepared for summer. Let’s take a look at some great summer tips to keep your vehicle healthy and cool so you can comfortably and reliably enjoy every ride.

Check Your Air Conditioner: There are few things more uncomfortable than sitting in a hot car in the summer. Especially in the seasonal heat, your vehicle needs a working air conditioner. Make sure to check your vehicle’s air conditioner to keep it blowing cold air.

Replace Your Windshield Wipers: Your vehicle’s windshield wipers have rubber that helps them endure harsh winter conditions while enabling you to more easily remove snow and ice. To start the new season with the best performance, getting a pair of fresh wiper blades will keep your vehicle equipped for all kinds of weather.

Inspect Your Tires: When inspecting all your tires, try to look for any imperfections, like cuts, bulges, or things penetrating into the tire. Also be sure to inspect the tire tread – if it looks worn down, it’s probably time to get some new tires. If the tread is fine, you will need to check on the tire pressure, but don’t start until the car has been idle for a few minutes to make sure the rubber has cooled down. If the tire pressure is low, inflate the tire to the manufacturer’s recommended pressure which can usually be found in the owner’s manual.

Check Your Brakes: Brakes are one of the most important parts of your vehicle to check regularly, but especially as temperatures change between seasons. Brake pads are affected by temperature changes, such as when the seasons change and it gets warmer, from winter to spring to summer. Make sure to get your brakes inspected by a professional, especially if it’s been a while. That way you can get a better understanding of any wear and damage.

At Carman Lincoln, we know that purchasing a new car is one of the biggest moments a new driver can make. However, while it’s fun to think about buying a new vehicle, it’s an important purchase that requires careful planning.

If you don’t make time to prepare, buying your first vehicle can take longer and be harder than it should.. It’s thus crucial to do some research and to narrow down what you’re looking for before settling on a vehicle. If you find yourself searching for your first vehicle or are helping a friend or family member consider their options, here are some great tips for selecting your first car.

Consider Your Commute

Before committing to a vehicle, you’ll want to think about how you’re going to use your first car. Consider where you typically travel to on a daily basis. This could be your daily school and work commute, and if you are frequently on the go, then you will likely want to focus on vehicles with lower mileage. Also consider the weather where you live. If you live in a place where the winters can be rough, choosing a car with four-wheel drive might be a necessary feature. Once you determine how you will use your car, the search becomes a little bit clearer.

Prioritize Pre-owned Options

For a first car, it’s usually  a good idea to avoid buying the very best car available. This is mostly due to what you can afford and maintain. Additionally, with a new pre-owned vehicle you don’t necessarily have to commit to monthly car payments. Given the make and model, you should probably get a car that is no more than 15 years old, but depending on the quality of the vehicle and the care it’s received, an older option could work well.

Research The Vehicle

Once you know the kind of vehicle you want to buy or save up for, you will want to learn about the nuances of the model. Take note of important factors, such as how long the vehicle type typically runs for. For example, if a particular brand of vehicle, like a Lincoln, lasts longer than most cars, that’s a great thing to consider. If buying pre-owned, be sure to also look into the car’s history and check any available records to see how well the previous owner treated the vehicle.

See It In Person

After you finish scouring the internet, you’ll want to see the car in person before you make any final decisions. Checking out a car up close may reveal problems—the vehicle could appear drastically different from what it looked like online. At this time, you may also find damaged parts, and because of this, the car doesn’t work properly. make sure you test drive the vehicle as well. You want to get a feel for how the car drives and whether the brakes and other essential features are working smoothly.

Last week, Lincoln officially revealed the company’s Star Concept all-electric vehicle, suggesting what’s to come as part of the brand’s future electrification efforts.

It’s true that concept vehicles usually don’t show the eventual final product, but they often show what’s likely or possible. Most recently, Lincoln anticipates that over half of their entire vehicle production will be focused on all-electric vehicles by the middle of the decade. Bolstering this prediction is their delivery of three new all-electric models by 2025; a fourth is scheduled for 2026.

“As Lincoln enters the next chapter in our transition to a zero-emissions future, the Lincoln Star Concept will lead the way for our portfolio of fully electric vehicles,” said Joy Falotico, president, Lincoln. “It is an excellent example of how we are redefining luxury for the next generation as we work to transform the vehicle into a third space – a true place of sanctuary – for our clients.”

Created with Lincoln’s central themes of “beauty, human, gliding, and sanctuary,” the Star Concept improves the brand’s “Quiet Flight” goal with many of their vehicles. For instance, the Star’s exterior is made up of smooth surfaces partitioned with defined lines, like where hood-meets-fender. This gives you a visual cue toward the vehicle’s aerodynamic design . Vibrant lighting features, including the vehicle’s crosshatch monolithic taillight, also show off the Star’s EV foundation.

As the Lincoln brand evolves toward electrifying futures with innovative vehicles, it is equally focused on maintaining it’s current portfolio fresh and introducing new clients to the brand. Lincoln reported its best annual global sales in 21 years, up 7% over 2021, and plans to build on its momentum with the recent launches of the all-new Zephyr in China and the new Navigator in North America.

“Electrification is removing many traditional vehicle design constraints, allowing us to reimagine what a vehicle can be,” said Anthony Lo, chief design officer, Ford Motor Company. “The Lincoln Star is a study of experiences and themes that push the boundaries of Lincoln design – and it’s just the start.”

The luxury-based Lincoln brand recently released a teaser video across its social platforms, giving viewers a brief look of a soon-to-be revealed electric vehicle concept. This new concept will be the first BEV to come from Lincoln, and it will represent the future of Lincoln EV possibilities for drivers.

Despite often giving updates and sharing news surrounding parent company Ford Motor, Lincoln Motor Company hasn’t historically shared a lot of EV news. Well, Lincoln is now ready to say more about its electrified future. The luxury automaker teased its first EV concept ahead of an official unveiling on April 20th. The company didn’t offer much beyond a brief peek at the vehicle’s outlines, but did say in a statement that the concept would serve as an “inspiration” for EVs arriving soon.

The company originally said its Zephyr Reflection concept car would work as a strong reference point for the future of Lincoln EVs. While the new teaser you see here isn’t an exact match, the stylish roof line suggests Lincoln borrowed some design elements.

It’s speculated that Lincoln is preparing at least five electric SUVs through 2026, with the first arriving in 2022—which was teased in June 2021. Based on a report from Reuters citing three people familiar with the Lincoln plans, the electric SUVs will replace or supplement the Corsair, Nautilus, Aviator and Navigator.

Lincoln will likely electrify its full lineup by 2030, with half of its lineup producing zero emissions by 2025. This includes an electric version of the Aviator SUV. The concept’s incoming reveal isn’t a surprise, then — Lincoln has just eight years to substantially expand its EV selection.

Spring is finally here, and for most people, that means it’s time for spring cleaning. While you’re dusting on top of your refrigerator and clearing out your closet, don’t forget that there are other areas of your life that deserve to get a little bit of that spring cleaning TLC, and your car is one of them! Winter can be really rough on your vehicle, so spring is a good time to give it a once-over and check some maintenance tasks off the list so that your car can stay running in tip-top shape all summer long. Here are some things to keep in mind!

Wash Your Car

Have you ever seen a car driving around at the end of winter that’s had so much salt and road chemicals splashed up on the sides that it almost looks like a different color? That’s what you want to get rid of as soon as possible. The salt and chemicals that the roads need during winter are highly corrosive and can do some serious wear and tear on your car, so as the weather starts to get warmer it’s a good idea to give it a good wash and get all of that gunk off before it can do any damage.

Check the Wipers and Wiper Fluid

Rain, snow, hail, sleet– the winter months are full of nasty weather conditions that give your wipers the workout of their lives. Next time you’re in the car using the wipers, take a minute to turn off any music you’re playing and notice how they’re working. Are they gliding smoothly and quietly, and cleaning the windshield efficiently, or are they skipping, squeaking, and leaving big patches uncleaned? If the latter is true, it’s probably time to get those wiper blades replaced. Spring is also a good time to top up your wiper fluid, just to make sure that you’re ready for the warmer months!

Check Your Tires

Checking your tires at the beginning of winter is always a good idea, to make sure they’re ready to handle slippery road conditions, but it’s also wise to check in with them at the end of winter too, particularly because cold weather can mess with your tire pressure. As the weather gets warmer, bust out your tire gauge and check that they’re all in the recommended range for your specific vehicle. Now is also the time to check in with your treads to assure they haven’t worn down to the point of becoming unsafe, and if you put special winter tires on your car, the all-season tires can finally go back on through the autumn!

These tips should help you to keep your car in good shape as the seasons change, but there’s one more thing a car needs, and that’s regular servicing. If your Lincoln vehicle needs servicing near New Castle, DE, contact the Carman Lincoln service department today. We’re ready to help you!
